This weekend I went to the Monmouth Park Race Track with my Parents to attend my old high school bestie's Daugther's third birthday party. We had a great time and ate lots of hot dogs and hamburgers. Today my person got back to cooking and made some ribs and a special Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce form the Fox Sports Tailgating handbook. Now it's time to relax and let that sauce simmer in my belly.
Other then December, I am about to enter my busiest season. Getting ready to end and begin a new work year all at once. I decided to enjoy a long weekend before all of the craziness. I had time to bake a cake and I also got to catch up with an old friend.
The cake I made was a Louisiana Crunch Cake found at Food.com. My cake came out amazing and I honestly believe that it looks better than the one I saw on the website. (Which never happens.) Anyway I made the cake on Friday and it's just about gone. It was great and a must try!
On Saturday, my person and I met an old bestie and her family in Doylestown. Neither of us have been there. We went to Maxwell's on Main and had a great time. We never realized that Doylestown had this cute little neighborhood town and agreed to go back again next time we meet.
Busy and overwhelming work week, but I ended it off with a lovely weekend at the Jersey shore. We had a great time with my family at the beach, went out to dinner, and played our family favorite game - categories.
I had to work off the awesome fries shown above that I ate at New Deck on Friday and I also tried making polenta and shrimp this week and a simple mushroom and cheese quesadilla. Now back to the work tomorrow.
Another nice short week at work and I'm about to go into a long one. Weekend was nice, but sooo hot. I wanted to make a cake but did not find all of the ingredients I needed so it will have to wait. I'm kinda glad, because I've been trying to work out a little everyday. So far, it's been going pretty well, but the ice cream I had last night got in the way. We went to the Creamery in Roxborough and the line was so long, but the wait was worth it. I got the vanilla peanut butter cup with chocolate sprinkles in a sugar cone. It was amazing! I hope everyone had a nice weekend.
Went to the beaches of Delaware this weekend and had a great time. We went clamming and I caught seven! For dinner tonight we had linguine with clams. It was the perfect summer weekend. Now back to work tomorrow.
We had a wonderful 4th of July and got to watch the fireworks at my friend's apartment by the Art Museum in Philadelphia. We always have a great time here and I even prefer to watch the fireworks in Philly instead of at home on the beach.
So now that the fourth is finished I feel like I am in prime summer mode and craving seafood. For dinner tonight I made Cilantro Lime shrimp over rice with Green beans. It was my first time making shrimp and I totally overcooked them. Oh well. The recipe was really easy though and I just have to keep practicing. I found it at Zahlmann Zoo Crew. I really suggest giving it a try. Especially if you like cilantro.
I hope everyone had a nice long holiday weekend.
Super busy weekend. With a two day conference for work there was not much time for anything else. It rained most of the weekend but we made the best of it. We went to Frankford Hall, which is an outdoor bar, with the best soft pretzels ever!! Although it rained we had a great time. The Phillies also had a double header on Sunday, though we only stayed for the first game. It turned out to be a beautiful day following the crazy rain and we enjoyed our time at the Park. I am looking forward to next week and seeing friends, family and fireworks.
With all that said, we only had time to make a pasta dinner. Going to try for something good next week. So here is are my pasta pictures. Hey - sometimes when you are busy a quick bowl of pasta is great.
So this weekend we celebrated Father's Day, my Aunt Merri's birthday, my parent's anniversary, and the first day of summer woohoo. It's so weird that summer just started and in my head it's half way over because June is just about finished. Anyway...we had four cakes this weekend and everyone blew out candles. Two cakes were homemade and two were purchased. Of course I made a cake last minute. I found this awesome one at the Tasty Kitchen. It's called Decadent Italian cream cake; however, is more like a pecan coconut cream cake. Regardless of what you call it, it was delicious. Unfortunately I could not find my round pans so I made it in two square ones, so it looks a little different, but luckily nobody thought that mattered. Hope everyone had a nice Father's Day and a fabulous first day of summer.
There is a heat wave in Philly but that hasn't stopped me from having fun. This past week was super busy at work and we even had to close early due to the heat on Friday. The weekend was just as hot which did not leave much time for cooking. Saturday I celebrated my one year anniversary with my person at R2L in Center City. It was beautiful and exactly the place to go if you are celebrating anything. The food was amazing - especially the dessert. They had a vanilla lava cake and I was super excited because I am not a chocolate person, and it was even filled with caramel. It was AMAZING! I also celebrated my friend's bridal shower today at the Art of the Bride which was a wonderful location and catered by the amazing DiBruno Brothers. So needless to say this was a very special weekend. I hope everyone is staying cool and enjoying themselves because summer is officially here! (Well kind of).
Another long weekend for me and I definitely needed this Monday to relax. I was so excited to hear that Avery was doing several beer events in Philadelphia this past week and we spent some time at Jon's Bar and Grill on South Street to experience the event. Saturday, we also had our far share of fun and food. We enjoyed an amazing meal at Tinto's - another Jose Garces restaurant, and had Gelato at Capogiro - apparently the best gelato outside of Italy. Sunday was the Philadelphia bike race and I made my best pasta salad and now it is finally time to relax. I am not looking forward to the work week, but at least there are only 4 more days until the weekend!
