Tis the season for gift giving and with each passing year I am running out of ideas. However, my Mom and I have become increasingly creative. It all started last year when I realized that the amount of small children in my life was increasing. I had a hard time finding a personal children’s gift and after speaking with some of my co-workers they suggested making something. I thought, what a great idea, but what could I make that the kids would actually enjoy? Hmm. Then I thought of play dough. I remembered I loved play dough as a kid. I also remembered eating the play dough and how it may or may not have been toxic. So I decided to look into making edible play dough, especially now with everything being all natural and organic, it was the perfect idea. My co-workers gave me an excellent and popular play dough recipe that was so easy to make. When I made the dough recipe for the kids in my life I made a variety of colors a day or two before I saw them and bought small glass containers and puffy painted the color names on the containers for an added touch. They came out wonderful. This year I have made the play dough several times for kids in my life and they always loved it. The texture is awesome and the scent is wonderful. It is edible and it smells delicious; but, I suggest not eating it because it tastes dreadful. You can customize the colors based upon which flavor Jello you pick. (i.e. strawberry = red). You can store the Jello in any glass container or re-sealable bag in the refrigerator for about a week. Enjoy making this homemade gift and seeing the kids become excited when they see the vibrant colors of the dough and experience the cool scent and texture. Happy Holidays!
